Leaving on a jet plane!

That's right! By the time you read this, my 6:00 a.m. flight has probably left. I am venturing up to Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington this weekend for some events with APU. We make this trip every year and I love every part of it. Even the 2 1/2 hour drive between Portland and Seattle. The weather this weekend in the Northwest is supposed to be divine, so in case I don't make to my APU event on Sunday, it is because my camera kidnapped me so I could go on a photo safari! Just kidding!

I am so excited for this trip because on Sunday, I get to meet one of my graduate school classmates newest addition to her family. And I get to do his first photoshoot!! Stay tuned for that scrumptious delight!! And on Tuesday, I am super excited to reunite with some of the ladies I met at Jasmine's workshop back in March. Jamie Delaine and Laura Marchbanks are meeting me in Seattle for lunch and some fun!!! Can't wait!

The picture below is one that I took from my Portland/Seattle trip last year at the Japanese Botanical Gardens near downtown Portland. You can click here to view the slideshow I made from last year.

I will be out of the office until Tuesday evening and will return all emails on Wednesday. Thank you for your understanding!

The Saroughian Family

Can I just say that I absolutely love it when a client and his/her family commissions me to come back to do more portraits of their family? I LOVE IT!

Celi and Arthur asked me to come back this past weekend for another session with their little ones. Isaac and Josiah are 8 months old now and Myla is turning four years old SOON! She is counting the hours until her big day of being a 4 year old. This time around went even better with Celi and her family because we were used to each other and it felt like I was a good friend stopping by for the afternoon. My favorite feeling in the world!!

Myla was her super energetic self for the afternoon and wanted to make sure Miss Tira took her pictures inside the "Jungle" also known as the far corner of the back yard. We even took the official Tira J chair back there so she could say that it made it to the Jungle. Oh Myla, how I love you and your imagination!

Issac and Josiah are getting so big and from the moment I walked in the door, I think they maybe knew I was there to take their picture. Okay, maybe not, but they were still okay with me holding them and taking their pictures. And you can see how much they have changed from the last time I visited to this past Sunday. Wow! Their personalities are starting to come out and their smiles are so full of life that you want to just pinch them. And, you can definitely tell them apart now. Love those boys!

Celi and Arthur ~ thank you so much for inviting me to come back to document your amazing family! You are all so wonderful and I can't wait to see how much the boys change for our next time together. And for when Myla becomes a big 4 year old. Love you all! ~ Tira J.

Mr. Isaac aka Mr. Smiles!

Mr. Josiah, he didn't want to let go of this water bottle.

Super amazing Miss Myla! She is in the "Jungle" in the back yard.

How often do you get all five family members to look at the camera, especially when three of them are under 5!

Love this family!

Katie and Nick: Engagement

Who knew that their paths would cross in while in living quarters of Azusa Pacific University, and that they would live two doors down from each other? Katie first met Nick in 2006 when she had just graduated from APU and decided to live on campus for the summer. This handsome guy by the name of Nick indeed moved in two doors down from Katie and you could say that the rest is history, but we aren't there yet. Nick had just transferred in to APU to be a part of the awesome Nursing program and later set his eyes on Katie. They became great friends and took the time to get to know each other and then a few years later, the planets aligned perfectly, because they started dating and later fell in love.

Nick went on a mission trip to India with APU for three weeks and it was at that time that their love would be truly tested, because being away from each other for that amount of time, showed them that their relationship was something truly special. Once Nick returned to the states, he took Katie up to Northern California to meet his family and friends, and it was then and after some really special moments with her family that she knew this was the guy she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with.

Fast forward to January 10, 2009 when Nick took Katie for what she thought was, a regular Saturday hike up Glendora Mountain Road. She had no idea he was going to pop the question. What she did tell Nick previously was that if and when he proposed someday, she wanted it to be a private moment between the two of them and she wanted to be totally surprised. Well, her wish and dreams came true when Nick got down on his knee and professed his love for Katie and asked her to spend the rest of her life with him. The mountains hold a special place in their hearts, hence the reason we started their engagement session there.

After Katie got engaged, she came into to my office and her smile was infectious and I knew something was up. She said that she was engaged and she wanted me to be her wedding photographer. Really? Yes! God has done some pretty amazing things in the lives of this awesome couple and I cannot wait to see what is going to happen next. Their engagement session was a lot of fun and I think we may have laughed more than we talked, which is totally fine in my book. One of the fun lines that Nick kept on saying was, "Katie, play along"! He kids and jokes!!! They were both so fabulous and we had a blast together.

Katie and Nick, thank you for a fun afternoon and we cannot wait for your wedding in August! Blessings to you both, Tira J.

The next few are my favorites!!

He was looking at her and she was looking at him. So cute!!!

Let the light shine

I had a wonderful holiday weekend, remembering all of the men and women who served our country, including my dear sweet husband. Every Memorial Day, David puts the American Flag out to let the neighborhood know that we are proud to be American's and that we are celebrating our freedom. Did you know that if you leave your flag out overnight, you are supposed to have a light shining on it? Hence the reason most American and State flags come down off those flag poles at sundown. So, I assure you that "we left the light on" for the flag that flew at our home over the weekend. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Ours was filled with lots of pictures, great food and relaxation!

Because each blog post is better with a picture, I leave you with this little sneak peek from an engagement session I did over the weekend.

What's on your Joy list?

These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. —John 15:11

Yesterday in a meeting, one of my friends brought a pretty powerful devotional to share with others and I wanted to share it with you.

Writer C. W. Metcalf was working as a hospice volunteer when he met 13-year-old Chuck, who was terminally ill. One day Chuck gave Metcalf half a dozen sheets of paper with writing on both sides and said, "I want you to give this to my mom and dad after I die. It's a list of all the fun we had, all the times we laughed." Metcalf was amazed that this young boy on the verge of death was thinking about the well-being of others. Metcalf delivered the list. Years later he decided to make a list of his own. Surprisingly, he found it difficult at first to compile his "joy list." But as he began looking each day for the moments of laughter, satisfaction, and joy, his list began to grow. Any joy list that we compile will no doubt include many references to the presence and power of Jesus Christ. No matter what our circumstances, joy is His gracious gift to all who trust Him. Even as Jesus faced the cross, He looked beyond its agony to the glad result of His sacrifice.

He told His disciples, "These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full" (John 15:11).

Why not begin your own joy list today. It can be a good reminder of the Lord's faithful love and the gladness of heart He brings. — David C. McCasland

Because life's circumstances change,
Our happiness may not remain;
But if we're walking with the Lord,
Our inner joy He will sustain.
To multiply your joy, count your blessings.

So, we went around the room and shared the top two things that would be on our Joy List.

One of the things on my Joy list is being thankful for my eyesight and for using my eyes to see life through my lens, and then capturing life for my clients, friends and family. This gift that HE has given to me, I try not to take for granted. And for that, I have true Joy in my life.

What is on your Joy list?

And because a blog post is much better with a picture, I leave you with a picture we took of the Iwo Jima Memorial in Washington D.C.

*Thank you to all of the men and women who have served our great nation in the line of duty. Including my husband!

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!!!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
